manner: [12] Etymologically, a manner is a method of ‘handling’ something. It comes via Anglo-Norman manere from Vulgar Latin *manuāria ‘way of handling’. This was a noun use of the Latin adjective manuārius ‘of the hand’, a derivative of manus ‘hand’.
